Distance

There are three legs to the trail:
  • Thames to Paeroa – 33km
  • Paeroa to Waikino – 14km
  • Paeroa to Te Aroha – 20km

Grade

  • The Hauraki Rail Trail is Grade 1 – the easiest grade, suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs
  • The trail is mostly flat - 98% has a gradient of less than 2°. The other 2% has a gradient of 2-4°.

Facilities

  • Toilets will be provided approximately 7.5-10kms
  • Rubbish bins will be available along the trail. Litters and weed control will be managed by the cycleway operator.
  • Screen planting will be provided where required to protect the privacy of property owners.

Construction

  • The trail will be a compacted gravel surface, approximately 2.5m wide
  • The majority of the trail through farmland will be fenced on both sides
  • Bridges will be 1.5m wide
